The Hardrock 100, a challenging hundred-mile ultramarathon set in the rugged San Juan Mountains of Colorado, is a race that tests the limits of endurance, strength, and determination. Known for its breathtaking scenery and relentless climbs, this race attracts some of the toughest and most dedicated ultrarunners from around the world.
Professional trail runner and Team Injinji Athlete Courtney Dauwalter is returning to Hardrock in 2024, determined to defend her first-place win from her record-breaking performance in 2023.
Tune in live beginning Friday, July 12, 6:00am Mountain Time.
Team Injinji Athletes Tara Warren and Tara Dower will be toeing the line alongside Courtney, ready to take on the epic 100-mile challenge for the first time. Believe it or not, their summer adventures are just getting started!
For Warren, Hardrock marks the second step in her quest to complete the Rocky Mountain Slam – four of the toughest 100-mile races in the Rocky Mountain region. For Dower, Hardrock kicks off an exciting summer, as she’ll attempt the supported Appalachian Trail FKT in August, just a few weeks after this challenging 100-miler.
We checked in with Courtney Dauwalter and Tara Warren ahead of the event and asked, why Hardrock?
Tara Warren: To me, Hardrock is the ultimate test in mountain running. I've enjoyed so many really tough races through the years, and this one is the one I've wanted to do the most because of its remoteness, race size, climbing and scenery. It's emotional to me to think of each of the races in the RMS, the journey to get to this start line. I'm not going to take this shot for granted and I'll enjoy every second out there!
Courtney Dauwalter: I’m returning to Hardrock because I’m drawn to how wild it feels, and how tiny you feel out on the trail when you’re looking across a huge range that you’re about to cross with your feet.
What are you excited about going into Hardrock?
Tara Warren: I'm super excited for magical miles in the San Juan. I've been qualifying to get to run this event for almost 8 years. The anticipation is REAL.
Courtney Dauwalter: It's a difficult race to nail. The altitude, all of the climbing, getting the nutrition right...so I'm looking forward to testing myself on a beautiful, difficult course.
What socks will be on your feet during the race?
Tara Warren: I'll be using a combo of the Ultra Run No-Show and the Ultra Run Mini-Crew.
Courtney Dauwalter: The Courtney Crew Hardrock! I can’t wait to take these tie-dye feet on a tour of the Colorado mountains.
