Where do you live and train? I live in Lockport, New York. I train at Lockport Athletic & Fitness Club
Ideal training spots, conditions, companions? When I’m not training in the gym I can be found running with a great friend of mine, Luciana Nevins. We usually do our long runs together on the Erie Canal Tow Path. It’s a great location and it’s easy on the body since it’s a crushed cinder surface.
How many years have you been running, cycling, or competing etc? I started competing in 2000.
What type of races do you prefer (i.e. trail, ultras, cycling, adventure racing)? I love almost all types of races but, my true passion lays in ultra distance events. Whether it’s a 100 mile run through the desert or the Triple Ironman Triathlon, I love it all!
How did you hear out about the Injinji Performance Toesocks™? I first learned about Injinji socks at Zombie Runner.
How long have you been wearing the toesocks? Your personal choice(s)? I started wearing Injinji socks in 2008.
How do the toesocks work for you, and what do you like best about them? What’s not to like? They are more than just a sock. They are protection. They keep your feet safe and protected from friction.
How have the toesocks changed your experience training and competing? I’ve noticed that I don’t have to worry about blisters anymore.
Do you have a memorable experience or story about using the toesocks for training or competing? I was competing in the Vermont 100 Mile Funeral run. It was cold and very wet. My feet was raw. A guy that I was running with saw how bad my feet were. He had his wife give me a new pair of Injinji’s so that I could continue.
What would you most like to accomplish athletically presently and/or long-term? I recently completed the Virginia Triple Ironman. 7.2 mile swim, 336 miles of cycling and 78.6 miles of running for a total of 421.8 mile to be completed non-stop. Athletes had 60 hours to complete this task. The next quest is to compete at the Badwater Ultramarathon.
Favorite Quotation? "We take these risks not to escape life, but to prevent life from escaping us."
Favorite foods for training and competing? Ensure plus, Strawberry flavor.
Favorite post race meal? Simple, A Whopper Combo meal with a Root Beer!
Other hobbies or interests that you like to spend your time doing? I enjoy hanging out with my son in my garage which has been converted to a bike shop.
Advice you would give to someone just starting out running. cycling, or in a new sport in general? The best advice I could give somebody new to the sport is to be the best you can be and not compare yourself to others.
Best advice you have ever received from a fellow athlete, or non-athlete? No matter which race your doing stop, take a deep breath, look around and enjoy.
Who is your personal hero or role model? Jeff Tracy from Lockport, NY. He’s always been there to lend advice and always has a positive attitude. Jeff is the person who taught me that anything is possible. |
