Where do you live and train?

I live and train around Chrisiansburg, VA

Ideal training spot, conditions, companions?

I love to train in Pandapas Pond Park – part of Jefferson National Forest. The
trails are great and there are plenty of quad-burning mountain climbs. I have a great training partner in Jay Johns.

Years running, cycling, or competing?

I have been running/competing since 1990, (Junior High Cross Country)

What type of races do you prefer (i.e. trail ultras)?

A 5K to a Marathon, on road or trail.

How did you hear or find out about Injinji tetratsoks?

I won my first pair in a trail race in 2003, in the Bad to the Bone Endurance Series.

How long have you been wearing the tetratsoks? Two years

Your personal tetratsok of choice?

I like the Micro tetratsok.

How do the tsoks work for you, and what do you like best about them?

I love the freedom they give my feet and toes. They are non-restrictive and allow movement of each individual toe.

How have the tetratsoks changed your experience training and competing?

My feet no longer blister and callus as they did with other socks.

Do you have a memorable experience or story about using the tetratsoks for training or competing?

I ran a Trail 25K in March of 2005. I wore a pair of Mini-Crew Tetratsoks. The weather was cold and the trail was a bit wet. I didn’t have a single problem with my feet. I went on to win the race beating second place by over five and a half minutes!

What would you most like to accomplish athletically presently and/or long-term?

I’d like to run a sub-2:24 marathon @ Chicago in 2006.

Favorite Quotation or Personal Motto?

“Being humble is the first step to greatness. You have two choices in athletics and in life; be humble or be humiliated.” – George Foreman

What inspires you to reach for more in your sport and in your life?

My family; their support is the tremendous. My wife is a runner and understands my passion. She helps keep me motivated and inspired.

Favorite foods for training and competing?

Clif Bars and GU packs

Favorite post race meal?

Quesadillas Rellenas (1 beef/1 chicken), with rice and beans.

Other hobbies or interests that you like to spend your time doing?

Frisbee and golf

Advice you would give to someone just starting out running or cycling, or in a new sport in general?

1) Ask questions about training, research training and supplementary training.
2) Find people to run with and good places to run.

Best advice you have ever received from a fellow athlete, or non-athlete?

On race day (to calm nerves) focus on the moment. When eating breakfast, just focus on eating breakfast, when stretching, focus on stretching, during mile one, focus on mile one. This keeps everything in focus and calms your nerves.

Personal hero or role model?

My parents are my role models. I’ve done everything to be the man my father is (hard-working, and loving of his family) and to possess the kindness and selflessness of my mother.
